We focus on timeless elegance at Erehwon Retreat. In early September 2017, we completed our most recent interior design program during which we replaced everything: all upholstery, fabrics, queen bed, sheets, towels and lampshades. In September 2018, we replaced the mini fridge.   It’s all new!

Even though we’ll take you back in time with our decor, modern design & convenience is still available for your use: Wi-Fi, washer and dryer, TV, DVD collection, microwave, and off-street parking.

BEDROOMS:

The cottage sleeps 2 in its beautifully-decorated bedroom with comfortable queen bed. The side tables and warm lighting make it the perfect space to read and rest after a long day out.

BATHROOM:

The cottage has one bathroom, complete with toilet, sink and walk-in shower. It’s sparkling clean, like the rest of the house. We provide luxurious custom-made Erewhon Retreat tea olive soap, made right from the plants found around the home. Toilet paper, towels, and shampoo are also provided.

KITCHEN & LOUNGE:

The fully-stocked kitchenette has everything you need. There is a four-burner gas stove, microwave, mini fridge, sink, coffee maker, and basic pots and pans, dishes and silverware. You can sit at the breakfast table with your morning coffee and plan your day. We stock breakfast foods in the fridge and pantry, including cereal, pancake mix, real maple syrup, spices, butter, milk, fresh Florida orange juice, tea, coffee and more.

The cottage’s lounge continues the nostalgic theme, with a charming sofa, newly upholstered chair, and a TV. Curl up with a book, watch a favorite DVD, and make memories here. We want you to feel at home.

The cottage’s DVD collection rivals a video rental store with over 70 titles, catering to all movie night tastes! If you prefer quieter entertainment, curl up in the reaching chair with a good book or one of the many American Bungalow magazines found around the cottage. On your way to bed, check the hallway storage closet and wrap yourself in a fluffy white robe and matching slippers

You will have access to the entire cottage and yard. There is a free off-street parking spot in front of the property on E Henry Avenue.

We will meet you upon arrival to give you keys, and we’ll print out special maps to help you explore; please let us know what you’re interested in. We love suggesting the best places to go, from where to eat alligator to what's playing in any of Central Florida's performing arts centers.

We aim to exceed your expectations for service, and we try to greet you each afternoon as you return from your adventures. After all, you're home.

Suitability

Just five years following the end of WW II, my parents and I lived in a 1920’s Bungalow on Las Robles Ave, Pasadena, CA. Because this home design seems part of my DNA, I developed a fascination with the period. In my adult years, my late father in law owned a 1923 Model T. Keeping to the period I restored a 1923 Crosby Wianno Senior, a knockabout sloop famous for the number of Kennedy family members who raced this class off of Hyannis, MA. So when it came to preparing for retirement, my now late mother reminded me that restoring a bungalow from the twenties, the decade that changed America, would be a wonderful post career project. I selected this home following extensive research on the early development of Tampa, the rush of tourism that began post WW I. There’s Really No Place like Florida Not only where you can toast the green flash at sunset on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, and gawk at the mansions on Bayshore Blvd and feel so casual on St. Pete Beach, or take a day to visit where Mickey Mouse lives.  With almost 19 million people mostly living on the coast, 2/3’s of who came from somewhere else, come discover that Florida is so much more than “the prize” for a life well lived somewhere else.

We Will Spread The Word

Henry is the penultimate host with the most charming, centrally located cottage in Tampa. Fantastic local breweries and restaurants close by and easy access to freeways. The attention to detail and welcoming package of a kitchen pre stocked with breakfast items was the icing on the cake.

A wonderful retreat, just right for two. The proprietor made sure everything was perfect.

We were looking for a quiet place in the warmth of Tampa for the Christmas holiday. Our choice was excellent. The bungalow offered the privacy we sought with the amenities we wanted. The pictures actually how this 1920s era bungalow which has been updated to the 2000s. Henry, the proprietor, was a wealth of knowledge and his book of information made our vacation perfect. The refrigerator was stocked with the fresh food and condiments. Henry had thought of everything. We will be back!

Gem

Erehwon was a gem of a find for us. Tucked into a historic neighborhood of Tampa, Old Seminole Heights, we found ourselves close to anything we wanted or needed. Henry is the host with the most, willing to go the extra mile to assure our stay was perfect. We enjoyed morning coffee with him on the garden deck while we planned out our day trip. He is very knowledgeable about the history, geography and current events of the area as well as larger Tampa. Truly an enjoyable conversationalist. And yet, he also was respectful of our space and time. We stayed in the Bungalow, which was beautiful, comfortable, amazingly clean. There was plenty of room for us to spread out. This was a perfect base for getting around this area of Florida. We highly recommend.

Personally Greeted

Henry greeted me when I arrived and showed me Erehwon Retreat's 1923 Cottage. He's put so much thought into every little thing from the super cute dishes nicely set on the table to the lovely furnishings and the bed... Oh was the bed ever comfortable!! I didn't want to get up though unfortunately I was here for a conference and it was non stop for five days. Getting back to the place was the best part of my day. I felt like I was home. So glad of my decision to stay here and to anyone considering, I highly recommend it. Many thanks Henry.

Great Location

Great location, very nice cottage and Henry is a superb host. The neighborhood is pleasant and it's easy to get around by foot (supermarket, coffee shop, restaurants are all within walking distance). It's also easy to use public transport; I took the bus and then the streetcar to Ybor City, not a hassle at all! Definitely recommend!

Exactly as listed

The bungalow is exactly as listed, styled in keeping with its age which is just great. All the little touches make all the difference - coffee and tea, milk and orange juice in the fridge, a great selection of spices and other useful things make this place perfect for visitors. The bed is comfy and the shower is really good. The whole bungalow was just perfect for my business trip and Henry and I had great conversations, he knows about all the great places to visit. The bungalow is designed and themed in period decor and fittings which makes it all the more charming. I have absolutely no hesitation in giving it 5*. I'm sure I'll be back.

Perfect Host

Henry is the perfect host..available if needed but understands if a guest would like privacy. His suggestions for things to do in the area are phenominal - from local restaurants, cultural activities and parks. His one bedroom cottage is immaculate and perfectly outfitted with everything you could possibly need or want. The neighborhood is a gem, with almost every house a lovingly restored Craftsman Bungalow.

Special Experience

The cottage is located in a beautiful neighborhood and the landscaping is restful. We loved that we could walk to breakfast/coffee, dinner and breweries. It was a quick trip to go downtown (if you avoid rush hour) and a 30-40 minutes drive to the beaches. Henry has thought of anything a guest might need so that your stay is stress free. He also has extensive knowledge of the area and has suggestions that you may not have thought of. We slept well: comfortable bed, pillows, bedding, lighting, outlets & AC. The neighborhood is quiet. We will be back.
