“A perfect view and location, tranquil.\"

Myself and 2 sisters were delivered to the door from the airport by Liz, who provided friendly, informative conversation throughout journey. We felt at home before we arrived at the fisherman's cottage which delighted us as soon as we entered. Lobby with stairs leading to bedrooms and bathroom. Master bedroom was delightful with glass doors leading to balcony with canopy. On ground floor lobby had a downstairs toilet with sink and extended into open plan kitchen with all amenities then into living space with glass doors onto patio area. This had walled seating area, garden furniture and barbecue. The view was magnificent and uninterrupted apart from wild flowers down to bay. We made full use of the balcony and view, with a leisurely breakfast each morning followed by relaxing in the sun until lunch most days. We also made use of the barbecue getting supplies from the supermarket which is a short walk away and does a very good selection of meats for barbecue, as well as fresh bread and vegetables. The position of this fisherman's cottage was ideal, You could stroll along the seafront or into the town square in a few minutes, there where many restaurants and bars to choose from all friendly and relaxing with excellent service. My one regret is that we could not visit them all. The marina was about a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction with bars and restaurants set out beautifully and lots of boat rides to choose from. Janet was particularly helpful when sorting out dental appointments and driving my sister to the dentist when she had a problem. She gave us advice on coach trips to choose and made us feel welcome. From the front door of the accommodation there are a number of bars and restaurants within a stones throw all friendly and helpful. The Indian restaurant on the opposite side of street a few doors up provided us with a excellent take away on the one occasion when we where to tired to get ready and go out after a full days sightseeing by coach. I cannot wait to return with my husband to share this delightful experience with him.

lovely renovated fisherman\'s cottage

Well planned accommodation, large ground floor balcony with the most wonderful, uninterrupted view of the coastline, with table, chairs and BBQ. Jan, the lady who was looking after the cottage visited us to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. She arranged a visit to a local dentist when my sister had a problem, even giving us a lift there and was very helpful, advising on trips out and local information. Liz, who took us to and from the airport was also really helpful and informative. We will all certainly be returning for another relaxing, peaceful stay in this lovely cottage.

Historic Charm and the Best Ocean View Ever!

We chose Casa Carolina from a picture on the Internet, and I have to say we hit the jackpot with this one! We always prefer to stay in a place with character, charm, and a sense of history, and this renovated fisherman's house fits the bill perfectly. Casa Carolina sits on a narrow, atmospheric, cobbled street, and you enter through a bright yellow wooden door. It feels comfortable from the first step inside--rustic tiles, whitewashed walls, arched pass-throughs, but well appointed with modern furniture. And that view! As you walk through the front door your eye is drawn straight to the back wall of the house--which is floor to ceiling glass doors that offer a panoramic view of the sea, beach, and the sparkling white buildings of Albufeiro in the far distance. The bottom floor has an entry parlor, a kitchen with everything you need for cooking, a living room with fireplace, chairs, and a couch (that could also double as a comfy bed for one person), and a gorgeous outside terrace with wraparound seating, a bougainvillea covered arbor, small table and chairs, and a BBQ. Between the terrace and the sea is an expanse of native wildflowers--all in bloom during our visit--and this eventually drops off, cliff-like--down to the sea. You really feel like you have your privacy here too. On either side of Casa Carolina are tiny, uninhabited buildings (one a tiny home owned not used in years, and the other a laundry/storage space for another building). Since Casa Carolina sits higher than the adjacent buildings, you don't even see them. Up a set of stairs is the second level with the master bedroom (sleeps 2), bathroom (gorgeous glass shower with rain shower), and a bedroom for one that is tiny but cozy and comfortable (basically fits a twin bed but has a skylight above that keeps it from feeling too closed in). The stairway is lined with bookshelves and loads of books. The master bedroom again offers complete uninterrupted views of the sea as the back wall is floor to ceiling glass doors that lead to a small terrace. The master also has a big closet with hangers and a beautiful antique dresser/mirror with marble top. Janet, the manager, stopped by on the first day to welcome us and we had a delightful chat with her. She's lived in the Algarve since 1974 and knows a lot about the area. Liz, a friend of the owner who lives close by, also was a joy to meet and even let us print some things in her apartment. A very sweet housekeeper, Maria, came by halfway into our visit to clean and refresh our towel supply. The location of Casa Carolina is absolutely perfect. There is an Indian restaurant a few doors down (called Indian Ocean--we ate there twice as it is SO delicious) and a Portuguese restaurant also a couple of doors down (also very good). A quick 1 minute walk takes you to the lift/stairs/path to the beach (3 options!) or you can walk another couple of minutes and you'll be in the heart of Albufeira's action. We always prefer to be close to--but not actually in--the action so this was ideal. There are also mini markets close by that carry all the essentials. Another huge plus about Casa Carolina is that Jackie, the owner, was always extremely quick about replying to our inquiries when planning our trip. She answered every question we had, and even arranged our transportation from Lisbon as well as a birthday dinner at a local restaurant. Even with a couple of days of lousy weather, Casa Carolina still made our trip to the Algarve a memorable one!
