It features a texture of stones, plants and flowers, articulated into a sequence of buildings and patios, animated by the play of the sunlight and the whistle of the sea breeze. It features a former warehouse surrounded by small stone buildings topped by sensuous white domes. The warehouse, originally a winery, was the only existing structure when the owner discovered the place, in 1968. The other buildings and patios were joyfully built over the next 30 years with volcanic stones found on the ground. Plants and flowers were nurtured and pampered for years in the firm belief that love and determination, in the scarcity of water, would counter the destructive sea salts sprayed by the strong winds during the winter months. The palm tree, towering over the central patio, was rescued from destruction in 1976, when the new airport was built, and happily transplanted to its present location. Ultimately, the house has grown into a special place where one savors the permanence of the stones, the healing powers of winds and sea waves, the earthiness of the primitive landscape, the mystery of the underground volcanic turbulence and the magic of the hundreds of falling stars in the midsummer night sky.
The Sea Ranch features three separate residences featuring seven rooms and five bathrooms. These residences, named Stonehouse, Boathouse and Warehouse, are grouped around a central open space functioning as a private “piazza”, and providing access to the kitchen, the wood-fired stone oven, and the various terraces and patio-gardens. Stonehouse and Boathouse include two bedrooms and one bath each, while Warehouse, a former winery converted to residential use, houses three bedrooms, three baths, a small kitchen, and a large multi-level loft space serving as art studio, living and dining area.
The Sea Ranch is available from May to October and the minimum stay is one week.
During May, June, September, and October, it is possible to rent only one of the three residences, while during July and August the Sea Ranch is only rented as one entity to large families or groups of friends numbering 6 to 14 guests. The villa is furnished and equipped, and linen is included.
