The seaside, which extends for 10 km, starts at Cea and continues with the area known as Teccu, formed of basalt outcrop formed by the eruption of an ancient volcano. The coast line, beautiful sea bed with its long sandy beaches, and in the middle are the rocks on the Torre or Barisardo which is built.

Sardinia, with its quintessential Mediterranean beauty, is mainly loved for swimming, boating, windsurfing, hiking, climbing, and camping, with coastal areas tending to become over touristed especially in the warmest month, August.

The inner life of the island away from the tourist spots takes longer to appreciate and requires you to peel away the layers of apparent Italianization.

After all, the ancient Nuragic civilization of Sardinia of ca. 1500 BC, whose stone monuments still dot the land, predates even the Etruscan civilization in mainland Italy by several hundred years.

Barisardo, Barì till Italy’s unification, originated from the joining of four ancient villages that sprung up around the rural churches of Sant’Antine, S. Leonardo, S. Cecilia and S. Susanna, identified still today with the villages four main neighbourhoods.

Snuggled between the hills of Su pranu, Pitzu e Monte and the plateau of Teccu, Barisardo presents a favourable climatic situation and a countryside characterised by century old olive and almond trees and Mediterranean bush.

Several domus de janas and many nuraghi, some of them in good condition are among the monuments to see in the surroundings.

The 10-km-long littoral begins in the area called Cea and continues at Teccu with a series of basalt rock promontories, result of the eruption of an ancient volcano whose mouth is on the plateau itself.

The coast, whose splendid reefs are the joy of deep-water divers, opens onto long strips of sand held together by the small rock on which the tower of Barisardo stands (Turri). Shady pine groves, wide patches of Mediterranean bush and rows of eucalyptus, with a wealth of typical local fauna and flora, outline the beaches up to the wetlands of Bau Eni and Tramalitzia, bordering with Cardedu’s territory.

Inside the village, the parish church, built between 1600 and 1700, is well worth a visit for its precious stairway with balustrade of finely inlaid polychrome marble and its baroque steeple that dominates the whole village. To the left of the church, is the interesting oratory of the Rosario Confraternity, which dates back to the 17th century and now in need of renovation.

Sardinia, is estimated to be old around 600 millions of years ( it emerged in the Carboniferous: hundreds millions years ago it was in strictly contact with France and Spain, before to carry out a translation with the neighbouring Corse) and boasts a signal stability in its structure: its volcanoes are extincted from millions years.

It can't be said the same about the hydrological viewpoint, a problem that characterizes as well cities like Cagliari: uncountable are the underground caverns of uncommon sizes.

The caves in the island are among the most beautiful and ancient in Italy and in Europe: it is possible to find some of these in the interior and along the coasts alike ( some are reachable only by sea, and some others are visitable only by rigged and capable speleologists).

An other phenomenon that involves particularly Sardinia is the erosion, caused by the natural composition of its rocks and by the strong action conducted by the dominant winds.

On the island, many “green lungs” can be found, where you can spend part of your time. The many trails offer to visitors the chance to be walked on foot, horseback, mountain bike or n all-terrain vehicles.

From north to south Sardinia, the natural repertoire is extremely diverse and full of surprises.
It easily happens to find rivers, waterfalls and springs or to come across ancient archaeological remains as Nuraghi, Tombs of the Giants or Domus de Janas.

In the Barbagie there is only an embarrassment of riches if you want to stop in the wooded areas. Among the most beautiful, we mention those of Montarbu (it is for a good part in the area of Seui, which borders on the Ogliastra), Arase (near Aritzo) and Uatzu (between Belvì and Tonara) that all belong to the Azienda Foreste Regionali (Regional Forests Corporation), except the state-owned forest of Montes (area of Orgosolo). Very fascinating are also the woods on the mountains between Seulo and Sadali, furrowed by canyons.

In the Supramonte of Orgosolo, in the Badde Tureddu locality, we suggest to visit some centuries-old evergreen oaks, which grow near a stream: they are important amenities for tourists. Real natural monuments which deserve conservation and respect.
